Bill Bensley is an architect and landscape designer stays in Bangkok. He is known for designing luxury hotels around the world.
Early Life and Education
Bill Bensley grew up in Southern California and graduated from Magnolia High School (California). He earned his bachelor's degree at Cal Poly Pomona before enrolling into the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and studied under Moshe Safdie. His class included six Americans along with other students from all over the globe.. He earned a Masters of Urban Design in 1984.
Career
While at Harvard University, Bensley befriended Lek Bunnag who went on to become a famous architect in Thailand (Country). After their studies, Bensley followed Lek to Singapore who went to do his professorship at the National University of Singapore. It was there that Bensley found his first job working for Belt Collins, an American landscape architecture Company.
Bill Bensley started BENSLEY in 1989. Throughout the course of his career, Bensley has done about 200 projects in 40 countries. His most notable projects include the Oberoi Vilas projects in India, Four Seasons' award-winning resorts in Thailand, St. Regis in Bali and the JW Marriott Phu Quoc and the InterContinental Danang in Vietnam. Bensley uses mother nature and the place where he is building as inspiration for his projects.
Bensley was inducted into the Hospitality Designs Hall of Fame in November 2017.
He has authored several books including Escapism, Paradise by Design, and Tropical Paradise which all capture his design philosophy in photographs and entries.
