Betsy Borrego (born April 21, 1992) is an African - Latin American actress, writer and social media influencer. She is best known for being a cast member in the Netflix Movie, The Lovebirds. [1]
Early Life
Betsy Borrego was born as Sarai Betsabe Borrego in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico. She moved to the United States with her mother, Abigail Cruz whn she was only a couple of years old. They traveled to different places across Texas state and finally settled in Conroe. [2] They moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 2006.[1][2]
Education
Betsy completed her schooling at Alfred Bonnabel High School and then graduated from the University of New Orleans.
Career
Acting
Betsy started acting in her school days when she was just 9 years old.
She faced a camera for the first time and auditioned for her school’s musical program and she was selected for the lead role of Annie in the show "Musical Annie". She never looked back since then. She pursued acting as her passion and appeared in other plays like "Into the Woods", "Chicago", "Smokey Joes", "Sister Act" and many more.[1]
She went through a tough period in her childhood and teenage years and she expressed it in her blog.
Being on stage felt right.
I know its weird to say but 7-17 was kinda a dark time for me, and acting was my only escape from reality.
Some people turned to drugs and alcohol, I turned to acting.
Besty started her career in Theatre at the New Orleans, Louisiana. She gained huge popularity for playing the character of Tess Delirio in Mark Medoff's play "Parsifal Worthy" She made her small screen debut with Marvel's Cloak & Dagger in 2019. Although she appeared in just one episode, she managed to get attention from film makers.
The Lovebirds
Betsy is making her big screen debut with the Netflix movie "The Lovebirds" (2020). She is playing the character of 'Reya' The Movie is set to release on May 22, 2020 (USA) on Netflix platform.[14] This is what Betsy said about her experience in her debut movie from an Interview with Victoria G (HelloVictoriaG fame). She is fond of NBA and hosts New Orleans Pelicans games at the Smoothie King Center arena when she is not performing in plays.
