Betsy Benac is Commissioner of Manatee County, Florida.
Education
She received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental psychology from the University of Michigan in 1979. [1]
Career
Benac has 34 years of experience as a professional land planner in both the public and private sectors.
Among her successes as Commissioner are the replacement of the aging DeSoto Bridge, which she was able to get designated the top regional priority for funding.
Benac’s service on the Manasota Basin Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District included planning and funding long-term water supply projects.
Her environmental record includes contributions to the policy boards of the Sarasota and Tampa Bay National Estuary Programs.
She has also served on the boards of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce, the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corp. and Leadership Manatee, among other organizations.
Personal Life
Betsy is the mother of Bo Benac, a man whose video of a shark being tortured in July 2017 got him into trouble.
