Beranton Whisenant Jr. was the Assistant U.S.

Attorney for the United States Attorney's Office.

He was a Federal Prosecutor in the Southern District of Florida.

Beranton grew up in Jacksonville and went to Bishop Kenny High School. Upon graduating, he became a student at Florida A&M where he majored in Business Administration. An active part of his campus community, Beranton was a part of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, the White and Gold Honor Society, the Golden Key International Honor Society, President of the Hatchett Pre-Law Society, and Treasurer of Toastmasters International, SBI Chapter. Furthermore, he made Dean's List and was an MPLE Scholar. Beranton graduated Cum Laude in 2001.

Beranton went on to attend the Fredric G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. During his time there, he was a Virgil Hawkins Scholar, MPLE Scholar, Mediation Team President, and earned his Certificate in International & Comparative Law from the University of Cape Town. He earned his J.D. in 2004.

For several years in the mid-2000s, Beranton was an Assistant State Attorney in the Jacksonville, Florida area where he prosecuted a variety of crimes including narcotics, robbery, attempted murder, and white collar crimes.

In 2008 he became a partner at Foley & Mansfield and focused in the areas of Product Liability, Medical Malpractice, Securities Litigation, Toxic Torts, Complex Civil Litigation, Family Law, Condominium Law, and Personal Injury.

Beranton became a Committee Member of The Florida Bar in 2013 and later Chair in 2014.

In 2016, he became a Member of The Florida Bar Judicial Nominating Procedure Committee.

In 2017, Beranton became the Federal Prosecutor for the Southern District of Florida in the Major Crimes Unit.

On May 24th, a passerby discovered Beranton's body on a Hollywood, Florida Beach.

It was confirmed to be him the next day.

Police have ruled his death a suicide.
