Ana is concerned that Marija will be tried and shot after liberation and offers her contact within resistance in order to help her clear her name.

Banjica concentration camp is closing down, and Bešević and Gestapo Major Krieger discuss what to to do with prisoners. There are divided into three groups - first is to be shot immediately, second is to be brought to Germany into labour camps and the third is released, only to be handled by Chetnik death squads who were given their addresses. After the first group is shot and second taken away, Stana and Tihi observe the third group being released. Tihi is displeased that the resistance couldn't have prevented execution, but Stana tells him that it wasn't practical. Some of the third group are, however, rescued. When Chetnik death squad arrive to house of one former prisoners, they are greeted and taken out by Prle, Tihi and Mrki.

Soon afterwards, Krieger's aide arrives to Special Police headquarters in order to bring present for Marija - an expensive necklace.

Marija uses that as an opportunity to slip away and phone her apartment and give away details of evacuation.

She is met by her boss Bešević who at first seems to suspect her as possible mole, but this interrogation is only an excuse to offer himself as an alternative to "barbarous" Krieger. He tells her that two of them might start new life after the war and, to show that he is serious, gives her special pass for the train leaving Belgrade with high officials. While this happens, cabinet meeting, presided by Milan Nedić's deputy is held and the minister openly admit that the Germany and they with them, are losing the war. Minister Rakić is the only optimistic, expressing hope that the Western Allies and Soviets might start another conflict and that their collaborationist government in exile might, at the end of the day, triumphantly return to Serbia.

Their preparations are observed by Mrki and Badža.
