Bandhunta Jugg
Bandhunta Jugg
Bandhunta Jugg (born April 28, 1995) is a rapper. [1] He first began to gain fame in early 2016 by releasing original music to YouTube and Soundcloud. He would go on to release the debut mixtape Jugg Season later that same year.[22]
Background
Jugg was born in Baltimore. He and younger brother Izzy had been rapping since they wer young. His father did not welcome the idea of him going into music, but wanted them to develop in other aspects.
Career
In 2016, he and his younger brother, Bandhunta Izzy, began gaining local traction with their signature back-and-forth lyrical bouts, describing what life in the street was on an average day. The collaborations started to attract comparisons to a couple of their favorite artists, G Herbo and Lil Bibby, whose tag-team contributions to the spread of Chicago Drill music sent a shockwave out onto the global rap community in 2012. That onslaught resulted in new, localized tweaks to drill throughout various regions in the United States. [23]
The dual lifestyle of not being a backpack rapper, instead living a precarious street life, while also hoping for stardom is a theme seen throughout Jugg’s music.
Jugg put his life’s transgressions into his debut mixtape, Jugg Season.
“It didn’t take long [to make].
Studio one night, do four songs.
Studio next night, do three songs,” Jugg said about the creation of his debut LP.
With standout tracks like the before-mentioned “Freak Btch,” “Known Around,” and the Izzy-assisted “Back At It Again,.”* Jugg tells the story of his life in a city that sits atop annual list of homicide rates in this country.
Jugg and his brother Izzy were already known street-wise, as Izzy says on “Back At It,” “What you know about that hard k, and that soft dope posting up near Mike’s?/ Selling that white, risking my life/ Posted up and we was toting them pipes.” For some, the street life is the end all, be all. For Jugg, he’s turned his life and stories into music. [24]
Even with two mixtapes under his belt, the second being the recently released Only For Da Real, Jugg says he still feels like an underrated artist in the Baltimore music scene.
With plans to drop another tape soon, hopefully his 2017 campaign can solidify himself as one of the marquee names in the city.
