Bana Alabed
Bana Alabed is a 7-year old girl living in Aleppo, Syria that shares the horrific violent bombings between rebel and government forces on her Twitter account. [undefined] In her tweets she laments the way in which the bombings and the violence has not allowed her to continue her education in school. [undefined]
Her twitter was created on September 24th, 2016, and she tweets in English with the help of her mother who is also a teacher.
Caught in the fight in a city that's been split in two during the country's long conflict, they began to document the daily struggle.
Bana wants to be a teacher like her mother, Fatemah, when she grows up - her father is a lawyer who works in a legal centre in the city.
Her mother studied English for three years in a language institute and studied law at a University - she began teaching Bana English since she was 4 years old. Fatemah also took courses in Journalism and Politics during her University education. [undefined]
People have accused the Twitter account to be fake and that Fatemah uses her daughter as propaganda. She answered back by saying that accusing her of lies is disappointing: "All the words come from the heart... all are the truth." They are not part of a charity organization and media organizations do not help them. She understands how to get messages across. In an interview with the BBC, she says that planes fly overhead for hours, "They drop the bombs without any mercy... We are not terrorists. We are not ISIS... We are all innocent here." [undefined]
On December 19th, Bana was evacuated safely from East Aleppo.
