Ayo Edebiri is a writer, improv-er and stand-up comedy. She’s in the sketch group Lo-Fi and works at The Rundown on BET. [1]
Early Life & Education
In an interview to Yourtango.com she said:
“Being in New York, I saw [comedy] was a thing that people were actually making a living doing.
I was meeting black women who were making it.
So I thought, ‘Okay, why not give this a shot?’”
Ayo Edebiri graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2017. [13]
Career
Ayo’s performed in readings, musicals and improv shows at places like UCB, Union Hall, Dixon Place and Ars nova. She's played Ayo the Balloon in the show "Everything Is Alive" and played a male warm-up comic in "It's a Guy Thing". She co-hosted a show called "In Bad Taste" at Vital Joint in Brooklyn. She has written for NBC’s Sunnyside and the short It Was Sometimes Like This. Together with Rachel Sennott, Ayo is a developing a digital series for Comedy Central. [2] [4] [5][14]
She wrote a humorous article for The New Yorker about the personalities New York Museums called "So You Want To Date A New York Museum". [3]
In July 2019, Ayo started Iconography podcast with Olivia Craighead. They invite guests and talk celebrity news, culture, and more.[9]
Personal Life
Both of Aoy's parents are immigrants.[14]
