Ava Le'Ray Barrin (January 23, 2000 - June 25, 2017) **** was an American transgender female residing in Athens, Georgia.

On June 25, 2017, Barrin was shot dead by another transgender identified as Jalen Breon Brown.

Officers responded to a report of a fight in progress at the Riverview Apartments at 1020 College Avenue and found Barrin lying in the parking lot of the complex not breathing.

She had suffered a single gunshot wound to the side of her chest.

Barrin was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Barrin and two friends were in the parking lot at about 11:45 a.m. when they crossed paths with Brown when the incident occurred.

Brown claimed he shot her in self-defense.
