U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz spoke Wednesday on the House floor in honor of Aurora Godoy, a San Jacinto resident who died two weeks ago in the San Bernardino mass shooting.
[1]"'Rora,' as she was called by her family, had a caring, loving and happy personality and smiled a lot.
She would always lend a helping hand when needed even without being asked," Ruiz said."Rora’s legacy will live on through (her son) Alexander’s happy demeanor and smiles.
Rora’s great passion was to be a great mom and wife.
She enjoyed baking, scrapbooking, Disneyland, the Green Bay Packers and Star Wars movies.
We will miss Rora’s laugh.
But as she would say ‘What can I do to get through this?
Smile.
Everything will be OK and happiness will come back again.’"[7]
James Godoy, saying he was still in disbelief, recalled meeting his wife in the ROTC program at Carson High School, starting as friends but quickly becoming sweethearts.
[6]“We were immediately attached at the hip,” Godoy said.
“It was fairly early on that I knew she was the one.”
[2]Friends figured they wouldn’t last, but they stayed together, married, had a son, and planned to get old together.Unfortunately,
he said, the shooting at the Inland Regional Center prevented that last goal. [6]
Asked what he wanted people to remember about his wife, Godoy said she had a big heart and loved the Green Bay Packers and rooted for the New York Yankees.
Three separate online fundraising accounts have been established to help James and Alexander Godoy with the funeral, child care and other expenses.
Together, about $70,000 already has been raised on the GoFundMe accounts.
