Ashlynne Mike was an 11 year old student and resident from the Navajo Nation. She was a 5th grader.
Death
On May 2, 2016, Ashlynne and her younger brother were abducted by Tom Begaye after getting off the bus in Lower Fruitland in the Navajo Nation. They were approached by Begaye in a maroon van with tinted windows. He reportedly told the children he would take them to go see a movie. Ashlynne's younger brother was able to escape by being let go, however Ashlynne was not.
Her body was later found on May 3, 2016 in Shiprock, New Mexico near a Rock formation. [1]
Tom admitted to investigators that he sexually assaulted Ashlynee and hit her on the head with a tire iron until she stopped moving.
