Artem Vaulin is a Ukranian computer software engineer who resided in Poland.

[2]He was the owner and operated of Kickass Torrents, one of the largest torrent websites on the internet that distributed $1 billion worth of copyrighted materials.

Arrest

Vaulin was arrested by Polish authorities on July 20th, 2016.

The United States District Office of Northern Illinois filed an unsealed complaint charging him with conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement, conspiracy to commit money laundering and two counts of criminal copyright infringement.

Vaulin faces up to 20 years in prison.

Vaulin website operated in 28 different languages and its servers covered various locations throughout the world.

One of those servers were housed at Chicago Board of Trade Building at 141 W. Jackson Blvd Chicago, IL 60604.

Federal American Prosecutors are filing requests to extradite Vaulin to the United States and face trial.
