Armando Garcia was a 17 year-old teenager who resided in the small town of Palmdale, California who was shot by police after trying to protect a police officer from being attacked by his dog. [0]

Early Life & Activities

Born and raised in the state of California, he grew in the Southern California town of Palmdale with his family. [3]

He was the owner of a Pit bull who has survived him. [1]

Shooting Incident

In the early morning of June 22nd, 2017, at around 3:40 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a home in the 38500 block of 10th Street East to check up about a loud party.

When they arrived and began checking the area, a pit bull charged at them and bit one of the deputies in the left knee.

The deputies removed and retreated themselves from the area.

Armando retrieved his dog and tied him up to prevent him from attacking again.

The police officers then called their Sergeant for back up and when they went to the same area again, the dog broke free again and charged at them.

The pit bull, a full grown male of about 65 lbs, was about 5 feet away when the officers opened fire at the dog.

At the moment, it is said in a memo report that Armando emerged from behind about 40 feet away to try and stop the dog from the attack.

Armando Leapt forward to save his dog but was struck by bullet fragment.

The dog and one of the other police officers were also shot - the police officer also from a bullet fragment.

Armando was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital where he died of his wounds. The police officer and the dog survived. [1]
