Cetin is a native of Adana, Turkey. United States. media had originally stated that the suspect appeared to be Hispanic. Cetin was arrested without incident nearly 24 hours after the shooting in Oak Harbor, Washington, about 30 miles from Burlington. His ex-girlfriend worked at the Macy's in the mall but hadn't worked there in a couple of months. King 5 News reported that he had stolen three of his father's legally owned guns and had used one of them, a Ruger, in the shooting spree.
According to a YouTube page by a subscriber with this name, the last video watched was Suicide Silence - Disengage - Performance Cut (official video) several days ago. Various Conservative sources have stated that he was a Hillary Clinton supporter based on a Twitter post. But the 2015 post appears ambiguous, saying: "We win I vote for Hillary". Donald Trump tweeted: "Another radical Muslim terrorist, Arcan Cetin who killed 5 people in #CascadeMallShooting is a Hillary supporter."
Myspace photos purported to be of Arcan show him holding various guns including a revolver with an extended barrel and a weapon identified as his uncle's M-16.
