Annette January was a 19 year old freshman at Southern University and A&M College.

She was a Business Management major and student athlete at the school.

January was a Gary, Indiana native.

Annette graduated Salutatorian from Thea Bowman Leadership Academy.

^[0]She was also a star athlete, earning more than 100 track and field medals.

Anette was fatally shot early Sunday April 10, 2016 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

She was at an off-campus party with friends from the track and field team when a verbal altercation started by a group of men.

Some of the men left and then returned and opened fire on the party.

Annette, along with her friend, Lashuntae Benton, 19, of Lake Charles, La., were struck and killed.

The shooting occurred outside an apartment complex near the campus of Louisiana State University.

Annette had earned a full-ride scholarship to Southern University and A&M College and was scheduled to return home to Gary, Indiana for summer break.
