On February 22, 2020, Mishler shared a video to her YouTube channel about the romantic surprise she had planned for Johnson on Valentineâs Day.
She built a kissing booth and had a cookie cake that said âI love youâ in icing.
Johnson arrived at the very end of the video, which Mishler ended with a caption that said Johnsonâs reaction âwasnât impressive anyway.â
During the video, Mishler also noted she and Johnson lived in the same apartment complex.[1][3][5]
Mishler claimed Chad Johnson âbackhandedâ her after she confronted him about seeing dating app notifications on his phone.
Mishler said the initial argument began on February 23, 2020, when she noticed dating app notifications on Johnsonâs phone.
She said she had gone to retrieve his keys from her apartment.
Johnsonâs phone was sitting next to the keys, and Mishler said it âlit upâ with Hinge notifications. Mishler said when she confronted Johnson about whether he was using the dating app, âhe went crazy on me.â She said Johnson punched a hole in her wall and also became violent with her, according to TMZ. Mishler wrote in the caption of the video that she posted on social media, that Johnson was yelling at her from outside the door. She claimed he yelled, âI hope you f*cking dieâ after she told him to leave because he was scaring her.[3][5]
Mishler said Johnson came back to her apartment the following day and tried to get inside.
Another neighbor called the police after hearing Johnson screaming at Mishler, according to E!
News.
Mishlerâs attorney told the entertainment outlet that she had also attempted to call 911 but that Johnson had grabbed her phone before she had a chance.[1][3][5]
Johnson was released from custody just before noon on February 25, 2020.
His next court date was scheduled for March 17.[1]
Mishler said the situation has left her feeling âsick.â
She wrote on Instagram after the first confrontation with Johnson, âiâm still sick. i want to jump off a cliff. not like to die or anything, but maybe just to take a lil unconscious nap until my body starts working again and i can frolic freely.â The following day, she used her Instagram story to thank friends and well-wishers who had sent her kind messages.
She wrote in part, âthings escalated this morning and are being taken care of now.â
She added, âim being guilted for sharing this/âruining his lifeâ and i know thatâs not true but itâs still scary ya know.â[1]
On March 2, 2020, Johnson posted on YouTube a 16-minute video accusing Mishler of manipulation after their split. Johnson claimed that Mishler actively used dating apps during their relationship and said she would often go days without seeing or contacting him. Mishler, for her part, posted an hourlong YouTube video uploaded on March 3, and accused him of âtrying to deflect and create chaos.â[4]
