Plot overview
Overjoyed to be reunited with her true love and husband Joffrey de Peyrac, Angélique paces the familiar decks of the Goldsbro on its journey towards Quebec. Pursued by the King of France, their destination offers sanctuary from his vast reach and influence. The couple settles in Quebec and immediately set about building their power base.
Soon, however, Angélique senses new plots from her relentless enemies who seem to be able to manipulate events around her from afar.
An old acquaintance reappears, bringing with him some ghosts from Angélique's past that threaten to derail her plans.
Reception
A 1977 review by Kirkus Reviews opines:
Plunging once more into the turbulent adventures of gorgeous, sensuous, heroic, psychic, crack-shot Angelique, we find ourselves swept into a whirlpool of plot elements from eight previous vols., all of which are footnoted ("See Angelique and the Demon") rather than explained --- Do not attempt to jump into this series in midstream--the water will be way over your tête.[5]
