Dr. Andy Ozment is the Senior Director for Cybersecurity on the National Security Staff at the White House.

He leads a team of individuals who support the Cybersecurity Coordinator, develop national and foreign policy, and coordinate the cybersecurity efforts of the Federal Executive Branch. Prior to this role, he led an operational security group working on compliance, metrics, and security authorization for the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Andy has been at the White House before, as Director of Federal Information Security Policy, for which he developed the White House top three priorities for federal information security and established a process for providing regular reports on those priorities to departments’ Deputy Secretaries.

Andy also led the White House effort to develop the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).

Before coming to the White House, Andy worked in a variety of roles in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Agency and as a detailee to the Department of State.

Andy has also researched the economics of computer security and security usability at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

He began his career as a software developer for Nortel Networks and working in operational network security for Georgia Tech. Andy studied in the United Kingdom on a Marshall Scholarship, where he earned a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge and an MS in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

He received his BS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech.
