Andres Perez was a high school senior on his way to school when he was hit and killed Tuesday morning near S. Avenue 60 and N. Figueroa Street -- five days away from his 18th birthday.
Los Angeles Unified School District closed all campuses because of a bomb threat sent to several school board members.
[5] The school posted a message on its website, saying: “Due to a potential threat to LAUSD schools, Los Angeles International Charter High School will be taking precautionary action and cancel classes today.”
[6] The driver who struck Perez had been employed with the city for 27 years and stayed at the scene, said LAPD spokeswoman Liliana Preciado.
He was very distraught, she said.
[2] The driver of the truck sat on the curb crying after telling police that the boy had just jumped in front of his vehicle, according to a AAA worker on scene.
The driver went to the hospital shortly afterward, the AAA worker said. The
driver was cooperating and very distraught, Aguilar said. [4]
His death came shortly after he had been accepted into Cal State LA’s film school. Grieving
classmates held a vigil for him the night of his death. [3]
