Death
On April 21, 2016 she was beaten to death inside of Howard High School of Technology bathroom. The fight broke out after the bell rang and the students were in their classrooms around 8:15 a.m.
Joyner was flown by state police helicopter to Nemours A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in critical condition and later pronounced dead from her injuries. Police have taken multiple people into custody in relation to her death.
The brawl was allegedly over a boy.
Joyner-Francis was to meet Trinity Carr, Zion Snow, and Chakeira Wright in a girl's bathroom to settle "beef." The Medical Examiner determined that Amy died from a cardiac incident that she was vulnerable to because of a pre-existing heart condition, but the cardiac incident would not have occurred if she had not been assaulted.
Justice
On May 9, 2016, three teenagers were charged with the death of Joyner-Francis.
Trinity Carr was charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide. Carr faces up to 8 years in prison if found guilty. Prosecutors will seek to have Carr tried as an adult in Superior Court due to the severity of the crime.
Chakeira Wright and Zion Snow will be charged with Third degree criminal conspiracy. Because neither Snow nor Wright have any prior juvenile arrests or convictions, and because they did not physically assault Amy, they will be tried as juveniles in Family Court.
All three girls planned the attack 20 hours before the fatal incident through written and oral communications.
