Damarea Leah Ogbuewu is a Nigerian-American singer-songwriter, tennis player, former gymnast, and author. Ogbuewu was born in Columbia, South Carolina, United States. Her film credit includes a film, A Promise In Africa (2021), in which she portrayed fifteen-year-old, Yemi Adeyemi.
Early Life and Background
Damarea Ogbuewu was born in the United States, the daughter of a Nigerian father, and an Asian (Specifically Korean) and Hispanic mother.
Damarea means 'Special To Gods' in Spanish, as her native name, Chika,means 'God is Supreme' in the Nigerian language of Igbo.
Ogbuewu identifies as Nigerian-American and has dual Nigerian and American citizenship.
Activism
Ogbuewu writes books and poetry relating to the empowerment of women
Her 2018 activism piece, "Still I Rise" won first place in the Speak Out District Competition in Irmo, South Carolina, which highlighted the hope to put an end to Teen-Suicide.
Her art has also gotten many presentations, at the beginner's level, which was placed as a permanent piece in the South Carolina Children's Gallery in 2015.
She is vocal about supporting same-sex marriage and preventing gender inequality.
She opposes the Catholic church’s stance on homosexuality.
