Amitabha Bagchi is an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and a writer. He is the winner of DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2019.
Early Life & Education
Bagchi was born in Delhi and went to school there. In 1992, he entered Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Amitabha got his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Science in 2002.[4]
Career
Currently, Bagchi is an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.[4]
Bagchi's first novel, Above Average, was published in 2007 by HarperCollins India and became a bestseller. His second novel, The Householder, was published in April 2012 by Fourth Estate, an imprint of HarperCollins India to critical acclaim. This Place, his third novel, was published in November 2013 in India and in March 2015 in United States by Fourth Estate. It was nominated for the Dublin Impac Literary Prize 2015 and shortlisted for the Raymond Crossword Book Award 2014.[5]
In 2019, Bagchi won DSC Prize for South Asian Literature for his novel Half the Night is Gone. A major part of this novel is based in the old-forgotten world of scheming zamindars, dubious morals and a man lamenting lost opportunities. Bagchi’s attention to detail ensures the readers are transported to that time, smelling the grime and listening to the creaking sound made by rusted doors.[1]
