Ama Qamata

Ama Qamata (born 02/09/1998) is a South Africa n Actress. She went into the spotlight upon playing the role of Buhle in Gomora.

She is best known for her critically-acclaimed role as Puleng Khumalo on the highly popular Netflix drama Blood and Water (South African TV series).

Early life

Back in her days in primary school, Ama Qamata was interested in acting and portrayed the role of Snow White in a play. Both her teachers and her fellow pupils praised her for a great performance.

Education

Ama Qamata completed her College education at the Reddam House School in South Africa. Thereafter, she secured admission into the University of Cape Town where she studies Theatre and Performance.

Career

Upon landing the role on the Mzansi Magic soapie, Ama had to move to Johannesburg to shoot the show. This resulted in pressing her pause in her academics and putting it on hold.

She portrays the role of Puleng who is a young and intelligent but spontaneous 16-year-old girl.

She investigates the cold case of her abducted-at-birth older sister.

The series premiers in 2020 on Netflix.

In the series Gomora (TV series), she portrays the role of Buhle, a 15-year-old outspoken and snobbish girl. She is the daughter of a wealthy Sandon couple who fell from riches to rags. The executive producer of the movie “Kutlwano Ditsele” handpicked her to play the role. Since they have worked together in the Netflix series Blood and Water (South African TV series) for which Kutlwano was Casting director.

Ama Qamata had also portrayed a lead role in Blood and Water, a Netflix Series, which will premier in 2020. During her interview section, Ama talked about the character, Buhle, and said that she can relate to it because she is also like that.

“Buhle is a very interesting character and, what stands out for me is her confidence and ability to go for whatever she wants, which is something I can relate to because I’m also like that.

“A lot of people will view her as a brat but what I’ve learned from playing her character is that people are complex.

Nobody is one dimensional, and everything about Buhle is a result of the life she’s always known and how she was raised,"

Ama made her first appearance on television upon playing the recurring role of Naledi in “My Perfect Family”, an SABC 1 Sitcom. She appeared first in Season 4, Episode 2 which aired on the 10th of October 2016.
