On Thursday March 1, 2018, Keyser was taken into custody after the body of TerriLynn St. John was found in a small wooded area near her home in Wake, Virginia at about 9:00 a.m. local time. ^{[2] [0]}

Keyser has been charged with first-degree murder and concealing a dead body. He stated to detectives he confronted St. John at her residence about statements that were made about him. ^[9]

Keyser stated that St. John struck him, and he struck her back he then pushed her out of the van Keyser was driving.

Investigators stated Keyser admitted that he pushed St. John out of the van, continued to hit her, and strangled her until she stopped breathing. ^[9]

Keyser then stated he loaded her in the van and put her body in the woods down from her residence.
