On September 8th, 2016, shortly before 9 a.m. a young female student brought a gun to school and died of a self-inflicted gunshot after shooting another female student at Alpine High School in Alpine, Texas.
The shooting happened inside the band hall of the school.
[13]Alpine is 220 miles southeast of El Paso and 110 miles north of Big Bend National Park.
The student victim was apparently strong enough to run outside and flag down a car to take her to the hospital.
The student and officer who were injured have not been identified and it's unclear how serious their injuries are.
A spokeswoman for Big Bend Regional Medical Center said the hospital are tending to three 'victims'.
Spokeswoman Ruth Hucke declined to say how the victims had been injured.
The shooting prompted a lockdown at Alpine's three public schools.
As reported by Brewster County Sheriff, Ronny Dodson, the shooting was past of a chaotic series of events around the community.
A call for a bomb threat was received nearby Sul Ross State University, which required law enforcements to rush to the college from the high school.
And, federal agent was accidentally shot by a law enforcement officer while responding to the High School shooting.
Dodson says:
"That's ridiculous for someone to call in something like this when we've got this situation going on...
This community does not expect this, we don't want this, and we can't explain it yet."
