In September 2017, Thompson and another naval nurse, Joan Hunter Barrett Fender, were removed from patient care after video and photos showing them inappropriately handling a newborn at Naval Hospital Jacksonville went viral on social media.
Thompson is seen in the video first uploaded to Snapchat, forcing a newborn baby to dance to 50 Cent's song In da Club. “We’re going to hell,” Joanie Barrett is also heard saying filming the video.
The hospital stated that both Thompson and Barrett will face legal action.
