Alexandre Julien

Alexandre Julien (born January 15, 1988) is a C-American musician, songwriter, composer, record producer and music executive.[1] He was born in Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and grew up, first in Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada, then in Edison, New Jersey, United States; the later is usually referred to as his hometown. He attended New York Military Academy in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York.[52][53]

Julien started playing guitar in 2002 and has played in Les Rocker's (1999), The Slopin Fairy 7 (2003–2004), The Tom & Alex Project (2003), Scapegoat (2004), Throne Of Mortality (2005–2007), Projection Mina (2006–2007), Soufferance (2006–present), Vision Solitude (2006–2010), Vision Lunar (2006–2007, 2007–2009, 2015–present), Vision Eternel (2007–present), Gallia Fornax (2007), Human Infect (2007–2008), Green Territory (2007), Lanterns Awake (2010–2011), Éphémère (2010, 2013, 2015), Citadel Swamp (2010–2016) and Murder On Redpath (2010–2011). [1][54]

In 2006, he co-founded the record label Mortification Records, which ceased operations in 2010.[55][56] He later founded another record label Abridged Pause Recordings, which has been active since 2008.[57][58][59] He also founded the audio recording and graphic design studios Mortified Studio (in Edison, New Jersey) and Mortified Studios (in Montreal, Quebec), the music and text publishing firm Abridged Pause Publishing, the film production company Abridged Pause Productions, the webzine Abridged Pause Blog and the clothing and merchandising company Abridged Pause Apparel; all imprints of umbrella company Abridged Pause Enterprises.[59][60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67] Outside of playing music, Julien is a noted music and film researcher and biographer; some of his biographies have been published on Abridged Pause Blog.[68][69][70]

Biography

Background

Alexandre Julien was brought up connected to the music and film industry.[1][25] One of Julien's uncles, Stephane Fania, was a prominent musician in the Montreal heavy metal and hard rock scenes throughout the 1980's and 1990's. Fania was a founding member, the bassist and the keyboardist in Boize, a successful heavy metal band affiliated with Aquarius Records.[26] Fania also played in others bands like Unmarked, Alter-Ego, Leading Edge, Strike Anywhere, Emissary and Breaking Violet, and owned and operated the record label U-Iliot Records, the music publishing company Klink Publishing, the film production company Klink Productions (to produce music videos), two live music concert venues: Club Rage and the Purple Haze; the recording studio H.Q. Studio, and later, the Art11 art gallery.[27][28][29]

Two of Julien's other uncles, brothers Pierre Bourdon and Francois Bourdon, were active in the Montreal music and film industries.[1][36] Pierre Bourdon played keyboards in the cold wave band Innervoice in the 1980's and then guitar in a folk duo named Pete & Al.[30][31] He was also a cameraman who worked on such films as The Paperboy, directed by Douglas Jackson, and The Lifeforce Experiment, directed by Piers Haggard and starring Donald Sutherland.[32] Francois Bourdon played bass in a few underground Montreal bands in the early 1990's and later became a cinematographer and worked on the cult film Subconscious Cruelty, directed by Karim Hussain.[34] Francois was also responsible for procuring Julien his first guitar. Several of Julien's extended family members also played acoustic guitar, keyboards, piano, electric organ and recorder. Julien's maternal grand-mother Pierrette Bourdon was a craft artist; her work has appeared as part of one of Vision Eternel's cover artworks.[35]

Julien was additionally influenced by his environment.

Moving to Edison, New Jersey, a township named after one of cinema's most prominent inventors, Thomas Edison, was a revelation for Julien who lived near the Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Tower and Museum.[37] The house in which Julien grew up appeared in the 2003 film School of Rock, which was partly filmed in Edison, New Jersey.[38] Growing up connected to the film industry, Julien started watching classic films at an early age and has often cited that his band Vision Eternel's music was more influenced by the cinematic visuals of film noir (and neo-noir), expressionism and drama, than by other bands and musicians.[13] Directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Douglas Sirk, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Jean-Pierre Melville, Jules Dassin, Billy Wilder, Fritz Lang, F. W. Murnau, Woody Allen, Henry Hathaway, Robert Siodmak and Otto Preminger; and cinematographers such as James Wong Howe, Robert Burks, John Alton, Joseph MacDonald, Mutz Greenbaum, Elwood Bredell, Nicholas Musuraca, Stanley Cortez, Norbert Brodine, Robert Krasker, Harry J. Wild, Arthur Edeson and Joseph Valentine have often been cited.[13][14][23][39][40][41] Julien has often cited Faith No More as his favorite and most influential band.[3][42][43][44]

Musical career

Les Rocker's (1999)

Les Rocker's was a short-lived cover band featuring Alexandre Julien and his siblings.[45][46]

The Slopin Fairy 7 (2003–2004)

The Slopin Fairy 7 was an American hard rock and nu-metal band founded by Alexandre Julien in June 2003.[47] The band was based in Edison, New Jersey, United States and released the demo extended play Slapin in August 2003, followed by the single Bolé in November 2003, and finally the full-length album The Fairy in February 2004.[49] The band also featured Andrew Palladino on bass and Marie-Helene Julien on recorder.[48]

The Tom & Alex Project (2003)

The Tom & Alex Project was a short-lived American acoustic folk duo based in Edison, New Jersey, United States.[50] The project was formed by Alexandre Julien and Thomas Nunziata, Jr. in mid-2003, with both members sharing acoustic guitar and lead vocal duties.[51] The band's name was influenced by The Alan Parsons Project.

Scapegoat (2004)

Scapegoat was an American nu-metal and metalcore band co-founded by guitarist Alexandre Julien and vocalist Jonathan Plungis in April 2004.[71] The band was based in Edison, New Jersey, United States and also featured keyboardist Andrew Palladino for a short time.[72] Early on, Scapegoat mainly performed cover songs by System of a Down, Limp Bizkit and Pink Floyd. By the end of its span, in October 2004, the band had written a handful of originals and also covered songs by Bleeding Through and Eighteen Visions.[73]

Throne Of Mortality (2005–2007)

Throne Of Mortality** was an American black metal band from Edison, New Jersey, United States founded in July 2005 by guitarist Alexandre Julien and vocalist Howard Change.[109] After several line-up changes in the rhythm section, including drummers Dan Maimone and Mike Obregon and a couple of bassists during the summer, Change took on the additional role of bassist.[110] In September 2005, Change moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey to attend Rutgers University, which slowed down the band practices. [111]

At Rutgers University, Howard met musician Saquib Malik who asked him to join his black metal/harsh noise project Funeral Junkie (which later changed name to Black Albatross).[109][112] After a couple of months, Howard left Throne Of Mortality to focus solely on Funeral Junkie, but before leaving taught Julien how to perform growling vocals. Starting in November 2005, Julien became the sole band member in Throne Of Mortality, performing vocals, guitar and bass. The band was never able to secure a drummer.[113]

After releasing four demos in 2005, Julien dedicated the first half of 2006 to composing an extended play's worth of material, culminating into the Monumental Dedication EP.[109] Demo versions of this EP were recorded but the final version was put off until a full band could be assembled.[113] In July 2006, Julien relocated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada and attempted to find new band members there. While in Canada during the second half of 2006, Throne Of Mortality's second extended play was composed, culminating into the Morbid Depression EP.[115] Demo versions of this EP were also recorded but again the final version was put off until a full band could be assembled.

[114]

On 6 October 2006, Julien founded a new atmospheric black metal band, Vision Lunar.[98] Initially, there was a difference in style and sound between new Throne Of Mortality songs and the early Vision Lunar songs.

Soon, however, Vision Lunar became more of a continuation of what Throne Of Mortality had started, with more melodic works.[100] In early December 2006, Julien returned to Edison, New Jersey.

By this time, Vision Lunar was already taking up most of his time and the band achieved considerable success with its fourth demo, Luna Borea, on 3 January 2007.[100] In order to focus on Vision Lunar, Julien official disbanded Throne Of Mortality on 10 January 2007.[114]

Projection Mina (2006–2007)

Projection Mina was a Canadian-American death metal and thrash metal project founded by Alexandre Julien, which existed from mid-2006 to November 2007.[107] The project began while Julien was living in Edison, New Jersey, United States, and continued after he moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The purpose of the project was to have a home for songs that were too death metal or thrash metal-influenced to fit in Julien's other metal bands at the time; Throne Of Mortality (a black metal band) and Vision Lunar (an atmospheric black metal band).

A dozen songs were written and demoed during the project's year-and-a-half span, but these were never released outside of Julien's circle of friends.[108]

Soufferance (2006–present)

Soufferance (formerly Vision Sufferance and Soufferance, Vision) is a Canadian-American dark ambient and black ambient band founded by Alexandre Julien in September 2006.[116] The band's name is pronounced the same way as Sufferance is in English; the distinct spelling serves only to stand out as an unique online search result and for aesthetics.[117]

After releasing an eponymous demo, Vision Sufferance, on 2 October 2006 through Mortification Records, Julien spent the next three years writing, recording and assembling the conceptual full-length album Travels Into Several Remote Nations Of The Mind.[125] The album was based on the Jonathan Swift novel Gulliver's Travels. During the making, a preview extended play of demos was released under the title Forthcoming Travels. The extended play was first released through Mortification Records on 30 November 2007, and was later reissued with additional content by Svartgalgh Records on 28 August 2009.[126][127] The full-length album was eventually released, after several delays, on 18 June 2010 through Valse Sinistre Productions.[128] Julien also sold special editions of the album that came with a bonus disc of unreleased material and a personalized autographed card.[129][130] On 14 August 2013, Abridged Pause Recordings issued a limited edition boxed set that regrouped all of the releases that were part of the Travels phase.[118][124]

In 2009, Julien started working on the second phase of releases for Soufferance, titled Tristesse. Over the next two years, another concept full-length album was written, recorded and assembled. Adieux Tristesse was eventually released, again after several delays, on 14 November 2013 through Abridged Pause Recordings.[119] The prequel extended play Bonjour Tristesse had been released on 23 March 2011 by Quartier23 Records.[131] Abridged Pause Recordings later reissue Bonjour Tristesse with additional content.[120] A boxed set titled Tristesse was announced but yet to be released.[122][123]

Soufferance's third phase of compositions was titled Memories. Although the first full-length from this phase was written and recorded in 2011, Memories Of A City was not released until 15 October 2014 through Abridged Pause Recordings.[121] A boxed set titled Memories was planned but has yet to be released.

Vision Solitude (2006–2010)

Vision Solitude was a Canadian-American acoustic dark ambient and dark folk rock project founded by Alexandre Julien in September 2006.[90] An eponymous demo was released on 3 October 2006 through Mortification Records and a song later appeared on the Triskalyon Promo Pack Various Artists compilation.[88][89]

Between 2007 and 2010, Julien wrote and recorded six more demos, but none were released.[91] Instead, most of the plans and conceptual ideas that originated with Vision Solitude were re-used in his other bands, mainly for Soufferance and Vision Eternel.[88] The project has been officially inactive since March 2010.[92]

Vision Lunar (2006–2007, 2007–2009, 2015–present)

Vision Lunar** is a Canadian-American atmospheric black metal band based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.[101] The band was formed in October 2006 by guitarist Alexandre Julien, as a more melodic and atmospheric creative output than his other black metal band Throne Of Mortality.[100] In December 2006, after having recorded six songs and released three demos in Montreal, Vision Lunar relocated to Edison, New Jersey, United States.[100] In New Jersey, the band recorded an additional eight songs and released three more demos, before going under a hiatus in March 2007.[102]

In July 2007, the band reformed after Julien returned to Montreal, recorded four more songs and released one last demo.[100] After failing to secure a stable line-up, Julien put the band on a permanent hiatus in early 2009.

In August 2015, Julien announced the revival of Vision Lunar.[103] A reissue of the older material was immediately released, followed by a new extended play a month later.[104][105]

Vision Lunar originally gained some popularity for releasing a monthly digital demo on the day of the full moon.[100] The demos were occasionally recorded on the same day of their release.[106] Most of the recordings have featured Julien alone, but Vision Lunar has had several other band members throughout its span. Some of the artists and musicians who have participated in or collaborated with Vision Lunar over the years include Philip Altobelli, Josh McConnell and Mike Dyball.[98][99]

Vision Lunar has released seven demos: Vision Lunar (2006), Lunar Moon (2006), Black Moon (2006), Luna Borea (2007), Luna Maria (2007), Luna Nebula (2007) and Luna Pluvia (2007). All seven demos were released digitally through Mortification Records.[93] In 2010, a compact disc compilation album titled Phase One (2006-2009) was released through Mortification Records, which compiled all of the material recorded by the band up to that point.[94][96] This compilation was re-released by Abridged Pause Recordings in 2015, with an updated track listing and artwork, after the band reformed that same year.[95] Vision Lunar's most recent release is the extended play Luna Subortus, released on compact disc through Abridged Pause Recordings and Winterwolf Records. [97]

Vision Eternel (2007–present)

Vision Eternel (formerly Vision Éternel) is a Canadian-American dark ambient, shoegaze and space-rock band based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.[2] The band was formed in Edison, New Jersey, United States in January 2007 by guitarist Alexandre Julien, while experimenting with various guitar effects during a studio recording session.[3] In July 2007, after having recorded its first two extended plays in New Jersey, the band relocated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada.[4] Over the course of its first year, the band had several other members before Julien ultimately decided to continue Vision Eternel alone. Some of the artists and musicians who have participated in or collaborated with Vision Eternel over the years include Philip Altobelli, Adam Kennedy, Nidal Mourad, Garry Brents, Alexander Fawcett, Howard Change and Eiman Nejad.[2][5][6][7]

The band's name is pronounced as Vision Eternal is in English; the purpose of the name's original spelling is purely for aesthetics.[8] From 2007 to 2018, the band spelled its name Vision Éternel, with an acute accent over the E; the accent has since been dropped with the band now performing as Vision Eternel.

The band is noted for its concept albums. themes center around infatuation, abandonment, emptiness, heartbreak, loneliness, isolation, depression, melancholia, nostalgia and nihilism.[3][10][11] Because of his dissatisfaction being labelled and narrowed down to an ambient, dark ambient or post-rock band, Julien ultimately coined the new term melogaze, which according to the band, bridged a connection between the style of music played and the dramatic and emotional themes represented on their concept albums.[12] The band is also noted for portraying an old fashioned, bygone era of Montreal. Part of this image is recreated in music videos and promotional pictures in which the band wears fedora hats and turned-up overcoats; an appearance which Julien accredited to his obsession with classic films, especially film noirs (and neo-noirs), expressionism and melodramas. Directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Douglas Sirk and Jean-Pierre Melville have been cited as major influences for Vision Eternel.[13][14][15]

Vision Eternel has released five extended plays: Seul Dans L'obsession in 2007, Un Automne En Solitude in 2008, Abondance De Périls in 2010, The Last Great Torch Song in 2012 and Echoes From Forgotten Hearts in 2015.[16][17] The first two EPs were released through Mortification Records, while Abridged Pause Recordings has released the three most recent.[8] In 2009, a Japanese-exclusive compilation album entitled An Anthology Of Past Misfortunes was released by Frozen Veins Records, which compiled all of the material originally released by Mortification Records with unreleased b-sides and a poster.[18][19] A limited edition retrospective boxed set entitled An Anthology Of Past Misfortunes (of no relation to the identically-titled 2009 Japanese compilation) was released by Abridged Pause Recordings in 2018. The boxed set contains all of the material released by the band up to that point along with previously unreleased material and memorabilia.[20][21][22] Vision Eternel has been working on its sixth extended play, expected for release in early 2020.[23][24]

Gallia Fornax (2007)

Gallia Fornax was a black ambient band based in Angers, Pays-de-la-Loire, France.[77] It was founded by keyboardist and soundscape artist Der.Walsch (aka Lansquenet) in 2005.[78] After recording over 45 minutes of ambient material, Alexandre Julien was asked to join the project and provide guitar and bass, with plans to add a black metal element to the full-length album.[79] Julien started demoing several guitar and bass ideas for one of the three 15-minute songs, however, the project soon broke up and the planned full-length was never completed.[78]

As a farewell, band leader Der.Walsch

then compiled two releases presented as demos: the self-titled Gallia Fornax, which solely used his dark ambient keyboard material; and Gloria Regnum, which used both his dark ambient keyboard material, and was layered with Julien's guitar and bass demo recordings.[79] Both releases came out through Mortification Records on 5 March 2007.[80] The song Gloria Regnum also appeared on two Various Artists compilations in 2007: Triskalyon Promo Pack (released through Mortification Records on 7 March 2007) and Obscure Synergy Chapter I (released through the Street Metal Forum on 16 May 2007).[81]

Musician Der.Walsch

went on to form another dark ambient project, Jfod Gumt.[82] A third and final Gallia Fornax demo release was planned in 2010, titled Galore Eterna, but never came to fruition.

Human Infect (2007–2008)

Human Infect was Canadian metalcore band founded by Alexandre Julien, which existed from mid-2007 to mid-2008 in Montreal, Quebec.[137] The band was named after the Bird Of Ill Omen song Watch Human Infect, which appeared on their sophomore release, When Love Would've Shown Interest In Us Both.

[138]

During it's year-long run, Julien composed seven songs which were scheduled to appear on a concept extended play, themed around crimes punishable by death by English law of the 18th century.[139] The artwork for the release was due to be designed by Belgian artist Niels Geybels at his studio Depraved Designs. Geybels only got so far as designing the band logo before the band was put on hold. [136]

Several demo recordings were made between January and June 2008, but these were never released outside of Julien's circle of friends.[140] The band was put on hiatus while a full line-up was secured, but ultimately never resumed.[137]

Green Territory (2007)

Green Territory was a Canadian indie rock band based in Montreal, Quebec, founded in 2007 by guitarist and principal songwriter Vincent Pilon.[143] Alexandre Julien joined the band as its second bassist, in late August 2007, and remained for about a month.[144] During that time, two songs were worked on and demoed at the newly setup Mortified Studios in Montreal with Julien engineering.

The band stalled, and while Pilon continued to write material, Julien moved on to other musical projects.

Pilon later re-assembled a line-up of musicians in early 2008 and most of the songs composed in 2007 were re-arranged extensively.[144] The band's final line-up featured brothers Maxime St-Denis (on drums) and Philippe St-Denis (on bass).[145][146] The two brothers had previously played in the indie rock band Bleu, which broke up in 2008; and following their time in Green Territory, formed another indie rock outfit, Eugène Et Le Cheval.[141][142] Pilon ultimately resumed Green Territory as a solo electronic project.

Lanterns Awake (2010–2011)

Lanterns Awake was a Canadian post-metal and atmospheric sludge metal band founded by Alexandre Julien in January 2010.[148] The band was based in Montreal, Quebec and was named after the song Lantern's Awake, a composition that Julien had written for his dark folk project Vision Solitude in September 2008.[147] Julien began writing and recording demos of several doom metal, death metal and drone metal-influenced songs during the early months of 2010.

Initially, the solo project was used for experimentation and the material was poorly recorded using an inexpensive TASCAM 4-track cassette tape recorder. Two demo releases were made available digitally through Mortification Records later in the year; The Times And Betrayals Of Charles Adrian Lemieure, In Two Parts was released on 22 August 2010; and The Unforgivable Truth Of A Broken Family, A Contemporary Piece In Two Parts was released on 4 September 2010.[149] Both were withdrawn from distribution before the end of the year.

At the end of the summer, Julien shifted the songwriting direction of the project towards atmospheric sludge metal and post-metal, re-arranging some of the songs originally demoed in early 2010. The solo project then evolved into a full band, first recruiting guitarist Ivan Byrne.[150] Byrne was an established musician, originally from Dublin, Ireland, where he had performed with Feeding Time, Outbreed, Wishbone and Sundance Crow.[151][152] Byrne had only been in Montreal a short time when he joined Lanterns Awake.

Next came bassist Alex Luca, who was simultaneously playing in the Montreal progressive metal outfit MirrorMind.[153][154] More demos were recorded with Luca at Mortified Studios, with Julien and Luca rotating as engineer. Before the end of the year, guitarist Guillaume Fleurent replaced Byrne.[150] [155] Two songs were demoed at Fleurent's home recording studio.

In early 2011, Winnipeg, Manitoba-native Patrick McDowall replaced Fleurent.[150][156] McDowall joined as guitarist and drum programmer, and had previously played in Patrick McDowall & The Melodramatic Pop Orchestra.[157] Two songs were also demoed at McDowall's home recording studio. Lanterns Awake broke up in February 2011.[148] McDowall went on to play in Small Teeth, No Aloha and Spectral Wound, and established himself as a successful audio recording engineer and producer.[157][158][159]

Éphémère (2010, 2013, 2015)

Éphémère is a dark ambient band founded by keyboardist and principal songwriter Mond Renteria in December 2009.[163] Originally based in Mexico City, Mexico, the project relocated to Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany in late 2017. [160]

Éphémère has featured many band members over the years, including Joffre O. Videz (from the bands Delirium Cordia and Nihilistinen Barbaarisuus) in December 2009 and Manuel Chavez (from the band Sorrowbringer) in 2012.[164] Alexandre Julien worked with Éphémère on three separate occasions, first from February to May 2010, then in February 2013, and finally from June to July 2015. [165]

The only material released to date by Éphémère appears on a split compact disc with Deus Ater and Viento Nokturno titled Death Melodies In The Eyes Of The Gorgons (released through Predator Records), and a demo cassette tape titled Mordt (released through Ars Sigillum Manifesto).[161][162] Both were released in 2015.

Citadel Swamp (2010–2016)

Citadel Swamp was an international atmospheric dark ambient project founded in October of 2010 by guitarist and bassist Alexandre Julien.[171] The project also featured Portuguese-Norwegian musician Bruno Duarte (who also performed as Immundus) and Italian musician Valerio Orlandini (who also performed as Symbiosis, and later played in NORV and Il Cinghiale), both on keyboards, effects, samples and noises. [172][173][174] Duarte was fired in March 2011 due to personal conflicts with Orlandini.[171][180]

British musician Marc Hoyland (who also played in 13 Candles, Ethereal Forest, Heathen Deity, Hoyland, Nefarious Dusk, Plaguewielder, Thornland and Wither) joined as guitarist and keyboardist in early 2014. [172][176]

On 29 September 2015, Orlandini was officially fired from the band.[171][175][180][181] Two new members were then announced: Italian musician Raimondo Gaviano (who also performed as Svart1); and Argentinian musician Lucas Martin (aka Unsilent, who also played in Almófar, Beneath The Wind, Enceladus IX, Funus Tristitiae, Invisvm, Levrij and The Descent Of The Sun). Both new members performed keyboards, effects, samples and noises.[172][177][178]

The final member to join was Belgian musician Niels Geybels (who also performed under the names Sequences and False Monikers and designed several renown artworks through Depraved Designs), in late 2015 on keyboards, effects, samples and noises.[172][179] Citadel Swamp officially disbanded in December 2016.[175]

Murder On Redpath (2010–2011)

Murder On Redpath was a Canadian thrash metal/sludge metal-influenced metalcore band (self-proclaimed frostland sludgecore) based in Montreal, Quebec.[168] The band was named after a series of events that occurred at one of the Redpath Mansions in Montreal on 13 June 1901. The band was founded in December 2010 by guitarist Alexandre Julien and drummer Antoine Trudel.[169] Trudel (aka Tony Frenchman) had previously played in Nuke, Vanishing Point, Get Busy, Get By and Look Beyond; and was simultaneously playing in the bands Omegas and Progression.[170] Trudel also operated the independent record label and concert promotion agency Iron Stance Records.[170]

Murder On Redpath was highly influenced by, and performed covers by metalcore bands of the mid-to-late 1990's.

This included Morning Again's Murder You Call War, Martyr, God Framed Me, America On Line, Stun the Evolution and Noteworthy Instruction; Culture's Deforestation; Canon's The Solution; Earthmover's A Commitment to Murder; and Slugfest's Matron of Sedition. When the band began composing original material, songwriter Julien took a more thrash metal and sludge metal approach.

In 2011, the band enlisted vocalist Guy Gaffney, a musician originally from Haines City, Florida who was living in Montreal at the time.[167] Gaffney had previously played in A Second Burning and David's Victory, and following his time in Murder On Redpath went on to play in Strengthen What Remains, Victim Of Reality, The Virgin Birth and Zero Chill. [166]

The band had difficulty securing a bassist, although several were auditioned. Gaffney had originally auditioned as bassist but offered to provide vocals upon hearing the band's original material.

The band suffered internal problems, including lack of dedication and too many side-projects.

When Murder On Redpath parted in August 2011, a 15-minute, 3-song concept extended play had had been nearly completed.

Non-performing career

Mortification Records (2006–2008, 2010)

Mortification Records was an international independent record label co-founded in September 2006 by the original members of the Triskalyon collective; namely Alexandre Julien, Der.Walsch and Eric Bryant.[83] Its headquarters were in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where Julien was living at the time.[84] The company was initially founded to release all of the material by the bands and artists of the Triskalyon collective.[85] Mortification Records shortly relocated to Edison, New Jersey, United States in December 2006, but ultimately resumed operations in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in July 2007.[85]

After the dissolution of Triskalyon, Julien assumed full ownership of the company and continued to release music up until 2008.[83] In February 2008, Mortification Records went under a hiatus after Julien founded his own record label Abridged Pause Recordings.[86] Mortification Records was sporadically brought back for limited edition releases, first in February 2010, and again from August to October 2010, acting as an imprint of Abridged Pause Recording.[87] After nearly 20 releases, Mortification Records folded permanently in late October 2010.[86]

Mortification Records has had on its roster Mortifier, Death Kvlt, Sinful Dimentia, Unkwiss, Throne Of Mortality, Vision Solitude, Soufferance, Terrorist, Vision Lunar, Gallia Fornax, Vision Pariah, Vision Eternel, Azag-Thoth, Lanterns Awake and Beautiful:Emptiness.[83]
