Alex Kotch is an investigative journalist.

He currently writes for Sludge, a new money-in-politics site, and The Young Turks Investigates.

Education

Kotch is a graduate of Brown University. He holds Master's and PhD degrees in music composition from Duke University, where he fused contemporary classical with electronic dance music. His dissertation was on this marriage of genres, based on research during fellowships in Berlin and London. [undefined]

Career

Kotch was part of the investigative unit at International Business Times, where his team won a Society of American Business Editors and Writers"Best in Business" award for coverage of the Republican tax bill of late 2017.

His first reporting job focused on campaign finance in North Carolina state politics at the Institute for Southern Studies in Durham, NC, and its online magazine, Facing South.

Kotch's stories have appeared at more than 20 publications including AlterNet, The American Prospect, BillMoyers.com, The Brooklyn Rail, Common Dreams, DeSmog, EcoWatch, Exposed by CMD, Facing South, Louisiana Weekly, The Nation, National Memo, Newsweek, Paste Magazine, Raw Story, Rewire, Salon, Truthout, Truthdig, VICE.com, Vocativ and The Washington Spectator.
