Albee Al

Albee Al (born July 12, 1988) is an American rapper who has generated a buzz with mixtapes like 2010's Somethin da Hood Made and those in his Everyday June 30th series. Some of his most popular tracks include "Shining Down," "I"m a Gee" and "Getting to the Cake."[1]

Early Life

Albert Robinson, known to everyone as AlBee Al The Gladiator, was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. Raised in the Marion Projects in Jersey City, Al grew up in a poverty stricken environment. At the age of 10, AlBee Al knew he wanted to pursue music as a full time career.

โ€œMusic is in my blood.

My father was an old school cat that was running around with artists such as Doug E. Fresh and Biz Markie.

My dad was a part of a group called Sweet Slick and Slide and their movement in hip-hop was huge.

Though my Dad was based out of Jersey City, he and his group members where always in New York.

My dad died when I was four years old.

His stage name was also AlBee Al,โ€ states Al.

Other than his dad, Albeel Al confirms Method Man and the entire Wu-Tang Clan as his influences because despite their environment and circumstances, they rose to stardom while representing their hood.[2]

Career

Albee AL has woven his tumultuous life experiences into his music from his earliest tracks, creating gritty, muscular Hip-hop that drew from the street life and violence he was exposed to from a young age. His first foray into rap came with self-produced mixtapes and guest verses on other artist's songs in the early 2010s.

Not long into his musical journey, Albee Al was charged with murder and spent four years in prison awaiting trial.

Ultimately acquitted of those charges in 2014, Al went full-speed ahead on music, releasing one-off singles at a rapid clip throughout 2015, and gaining exposure for tracks like "Uncomparable" and "Welcome to My City."

He continued releasing singles and mixtapes over the next few years, including collaborations with Monty, Uncle Murda, Ve, and Daddy Co. The full-length Tears 4 a Goon arrived in 2017 and included the single "Loving You." A mixtape, Koba, followed in 2019 and landed at number 21 on Billboard's Top Independent albums chart.[3]
