Life and Career
Al Lubel graduated from law school in Florida. He was at first a Lawyer and did stand-up comedian in his spare time. But once comedy became the centerpiece of his life he decided to give up the law for good. "I realized I had to give up the practice of law when clients would call me for legal advice at places like the St. Louis Funny Bone." [1]
A turning point in his career was when he won the $100,000 grand prize in Star Search. Since then he has appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. [1]
Al has also played an attorney on the Blake Clark HBO Comedy Hour and has been featured in the Showtime and PBS special, A Standup Life.
He has appeared on all seven episodes of the ESPN series, Bill Walton's Long Strange Trip.
Al's comedy special, Al Alone, earned himself Amused Moose Award Judges Prize as the best one person show in the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In addition, Al was nominated for best performer for a solo show by the Barry Awards at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Al regularly performs at comedy clubs in Los Angeles, California such as The Comedy Store and The Laugh Factory.
