Early Life
Agnes was born was born in Noorvik, Alaska USA, on 14 June 1972 on the same day when Hurricane Agnes hit the US, thus her name. She is a native Inupaiaq.
She was born into the family of hunters as both her mother and father were fighting the Alaska cold weather and were struggling to live there. She learned how to hunt and set traps at a very early age, which is very important for both girls and boys living in the Alaskan wilderness.
She was home schooled and received her high school diploma in 1990 after graduating her tests.
Personal
Her first husband was a man known only by his surname Carter.
Agnes gave birth to two of their children named Douglas Doug Carter and Jon Hailstone, before the two [2] divorced after a couple of years of marriage, due to what appears to be Carter’s wish to move away from Alaska.
Douglas has since become a hunter and is married to Gloria Iyatunguk with whom he has five children, and the family is currently living in Deering, Alaska. Jon has also become a hunter and is a married man.
Agnes met Chip Hailstone (born Edward V Hailstone in 1969) in Noorvik in 1988 years, before she met and married her first husband.
They married in 1998 and have five daughters together named Iriqtaq, Quitan, Caroline, Mary, and Tinmiaq.
Iriqtaq is 21 years old, she is attending college and has a son Wade who was born in 2016, while Mary is a captain of a basketball team in her high school.
Agnes enjoys living in the Wilderness, in the coldest place in the USA which is Alaska, and she also likes the freedom which this kind of life provides to her.
When she had the option to leave Alaska with her first husband, she stayed and let him go on his own.
She is interested in guns and had books to read about them before she was ready to choose her own.
Her knife is custom made for all purposes, and it helps her when hunting, and working around her house.
She is keen on reading in her spare time next to her fire at home some of her favorite genres are books based on true historic events, and crime detective dramas.
She is a big lover of animals, and although she kills them for their coats and meat, she believes this is just the food chain, and she always apologizes to the animal after she takes its life.
On her chin, Agnes has tattooed stripes which represent maturity and her reaching of puberty and it means that a woman has grown and become serious, and that she shouldn’t spend much time laughing and fooling around.
Career
Agnes is a hunter and she strives to survive the best she can with what she has in Alaska.
She has a Mosin Nagant 3-line rifle M1819 known as the Mosin’s rifle in Russian which is a five-shot, bolt-action, internal magazine military rifle developed between 1882 and 1891. The rifle is the most produced in the history of wars with over 37 million units made while they are still very popular. She has an all-purpose knife which she named Ulu.
She gained recognition on 19 May 2013, when she was cast to star in the “Life Below Zero” reality TV series which airs on National Geographic Channel. It shows several people who are living in remote areas of Alaska from choice, surviving in its below-zero conditions. These people hunt for food and depend only on themselves and the resources they have. Some of the main characters are Sue Aikens, a 54 year-old woman and the only resident of the Kavik river camp, our Agnes and her husband Chip, and Glen Villeneuve, among others.
The series has won four rewards – 68th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards for an outstanding Cinematography for a reality program in 2016, a 69th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards for an outstanding picture editing for an unstructured reality program in 2017, and a 70th and 71st Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for an outstanding cinematography for a reality program in both 2018 and 2019.
