Adonis Graham
Adonis Graham
Adonis Graham (born October 11, 2017)[3] is the son of Drake and Sophie Brussaux. In 2018, he became well known to the media after being mentioned in Pusha T's diss track "The Story of Adidon" which accused Drake of being a deadbeat dad to his son.
Personal Life
Adonis was born in October to award-winning hip hop artist Drake and a former video vixen and artist who lives in Paris named Sophie Brussaux. [11]
Adonis Graham was named after the male Greek God of beauty and desire. In most legends he's the son of a cursed union between Eros and Myrrh who grows up to be so beautiful that he becomes Aphrodite's mortal lover. Adonis later gored on a hunting trip by a boar and the Anemone flower sprouts from his blood and tears. He's associated with fertility. [9]
Drake & Pusha T Rivalry
In 2017, Pusha T released a diss song to Drake called "The Story of Adidon," which criticized Drake for being a bad father. Some of the more scathing lyrics also took aim at his son's mother, Sophie Brussaux:
"Sophie knows better, ask your baby mother .
Cleaned her up for IG, but the stench is on her .
A baby's involved, it's deeper than rap .
We talkin' character, let me keep with the facts .
You are hiding a child, let that boy come home .
Deadbeat mothafucka, playin' border patrol, ooh .
Adonis is your son and he deserves more than an Adidas press run, that's real.
Love that baby, respect that girl .
Forget she's a pornstar, let her be your world, yuugh!"
His release strategy was centered around calling Drake out for not revealing he had a son.
The single was released with an old picture of Drake wearing blackface makeup. [8]
Diss Tracks
The two would trade mild insults for years until it escalated to attacks on family.
Drake responded for the first time with a track called "Tuscan Leather" in 2013.
Pusha hit back with "HGTV" which prompted Drake to drop Two Birds, One Stone. That led to Pusha T writing "Infrared" which provoked Drake into speaking on Pusha in the "Duppy Freestlye". In the song, Drake jokes that Pusha T owes him money for using his name: "We got a invoice comin’ to you’ / considerin’ that we just sold another 20 for you". When Pusha went along with it and asked Drake to release the invoice, Drake already had one prepared requesting $100,000 for "promotional assistance and career reviving".[6]
Finally, Pusha T dropped the Story of Adidon which essentially ended the beef.
Drake's Response To Story Of Adidon
Drake later released the album Scorpion, which everyone thought would contain stinging reprisals, but was more about Drake's sensuality as a scorpio. He refers to Adonis on several tracks throughout the double album and explains why he did not go public with the news earlier in the track "March 14th." He also released the single "I'm Upset" which was about being disgruntled because he wasn't able to control the narrative surrounding such a private event. [7]
Drake's first time talking about Adonis in-depth was on LeBron James' HBO show Shop Talk. Drake said that the whole thing was a bit sudden but he feels that he's adapting well: [22]
"I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who… you know, we’ve had our moments, right?
And I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened.
But I don’t have any desire for him to, like, not love his mother… I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother.
We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible, and now I’m just really excited to be a great father.
I have a son, he’s a beautiful boy."
