Ellingson went to Rochester Loudres High School where he was a member of their football and baseball teams.

In 2014, he was a vital part of their state championship football team and during his senior year, he bolstered a 4-0 record with a.344 batting average.

In addition, Ellingson garnered 22 hits in 64 at bats as a junior with 18 RBI, eight runs, and a.344 batting average in 2014 while having a 4-0 record pitching 29 innings owning a 5.75 earned run average.

He graduated from Loudres in 2015.
