Abigail Fisher
Abigail Fisher was the plaintiff in Fisher v. University of Texas, a Supreme Court case on affirmative action. Fisher claims she was denied admission to the University of Texas at Austin because the school considered race in its admissions process. Fisher says she did everything right — worked hard in school, played the cello, volunteered, earned respectable test scores — but was at a disadvantage because she is white.
She grew up in Sugar Land, Texas, about 150 miles from Austin.
Both her dad and her sister attended University of Texas at Austin.
After being rejected from University of Texas at Austin, she was offered admission to a satellite campus. However, she ended up attending Louisiana State University and graduated in 2012. Fisher now works as a business analyst in Austin.
Fisher was the subject of the viral #StayMadAbby Twitter hashtag. After losing in the Supreme Court in June 2016, she was referred to by Twitter hashtag #beckywiththebadgrades, a reference to Beyoncé's "Becky With The Good Hair" lyric.
In a 2012 video released by her legal team, Fisher said "I dreamed of going to UT ever since the second grade."
