The Shooting of Alton Sterling
In the early morning of July 5th, 2016, a man, Alton Sterling, as he was selling cds and dvds in front of Abdullah's convenient store, police officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II received a call that a man fitting the description of Alton pointed his gun at someone. The officers proceeded to apprehend Alton, and through an altercation the officers shot him down several times. According to Abdullah, the police officers shot Alton "four or six times".
Abdullah witnessed the incident and the shooting of Alton.
He had known Alton for a few years and even admits to have shared a moment of quip with Alton before it all went down: "Just five minutes before, he walked into the store getting something to drink, joking around, (and we were) calling each other names."
Muflahi says he did not see a gun in Sterling’s hand, but he said he did see officers pull a gun out of Sterling’s pocket after the shooting.
In an interview released on Facebook, Abdullah says, “I’ve never seen him get into a fight with anybody or anything at all... He’s really friendly. A lot of people know him. A lot of people respect him.”
Lawsuit
In July 2016, Muflahi filed a lawsuit against the Baton Rouge Police Department. Muflahi alleges that police stole the surveillance video from his store, took his cell phone and locked him in a car for four hours.
