The band formed in 2009[2] and released two EPs, with the full-length debut album Sports coming on Slumberland Records in 2010.[3] The album received an 8.2 rating from Pitchfork Media.[4] It also received 4/5 stars on Tinymixtapes[1] and was also reviewed by National Public Radio,[5] the Portland Mercury,[6] Boston Phoenix,[7] NME,[8] Drowned in Sound,[9] Brooklyn Vegan,[10] The Onion's AV Club,[11] and PopMatters.[12]

In late 2018, Weekend toured with Nothing and Thursday.
