History

In 2011, UrbanPro (formerly ThinkVidya.com) was founded by Rakesh Kalra.

The platform enabled students and parents connect with tutors and institutes across India.

UrbanPro (as ThinkVidya.com) offered services in a range of categories including Exam Prep, IT Courses, Tuition, Languages, Dance, Yoga, [2] and more. In 2015, the company extended its services beyond education by adding new categories – Event Management & Services, Health & Wellness, Interior Designing and Photography, [3] and rebranded itself as UrbanPro. [4] This new portal allows customers to find and hire professionals in various categories besides education. On the other hand, professionals can create their profiles, showcase their skills and get hired for their services.

In January 2016, UrbanPro has decided to focus and expand its education categories, without changing the existing website functionality and features.

Investment

In 2014, UrbanPro raised an undisclosed amount of funding from a US-based angel investor.

[5] The company raised $2 million ( approx.

12 crores) from Nirvana Venture Advisors, the funds are utilized to add more verticals, improve the product and expand in more cities.
