Tom Ogle

Tom Ogle

Tom Ogle (1953 - 19 August 1981) was an American inventor.

He claimed to have invented a modified carburetor which drastically increased fuel economy. Ogle claimed that his device could allow cars to reach up to 100 miles per gallon. Initial tests appeared to support Ogle's claim, and received some media attention. However, Ogle's test was not conducted under rigorous scientific scrutiny, and his performance has not been independently duplicated.

Principles of operation

Rather than maintain the fuel tank at ambient temperature and pressure, Ogle's design reduced the pressure and heated the gasoline to produce vapors.

These vapors were combusted, and the car ran on fumes.

This required the gas tank to be structurally supported as it was now acting as a pressure vessel.
