Satpokhariya Rajputs
Satpokhariya Rajputs
Satpokhariya is a Rajput clan of Uttar Pradesh. They belong to Champawat clan of Rathore dynasty. Towards the end of 17th century a band of champawat rajputs tackling mughal emperor Aurangzeb under the leadership of Durgadas Rathore had to leave their homeland 'Pokhran' when the rebellion led by Akbar (Aurangzeb's son) and aided by Durgadas Rathore against Aurangzeb collapsed. They moved to the east and settled in the present day Mau district of Uttar Pradesh (around 100 kms from Varanasi). They started addressing themselves as 'Satpokhariya' which in local language denotes the one who originally belongs to 'Pokhran' ,as it was their homeland once. Their descendants are still present in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh near Kopaganj and call themselves Satpokhariya thakurs.
