Raised in Granville, Massachusetts, Tavernise graduated in 1993 with a B.A. in Russian Studies from Barnard College.[1] She has been criticized by many for her description of alt-right commentator Ben Shapiro as the “cool kids’ philosopher.” Tavernise speaks Italian and Russian.
