Robert Vargas is a Los Angeles artist known for his charcoal portraits, murals, live events, and monthly live drawings at the DTLA Art Walk.
He was born and raised in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights.
[1] He studied at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) [2] and Pratt Institute in New York.
Career
Vargas worked as the booking agent at the Conga Room during its heyday before moving to DTLA and pursuing his art career full-time. He painted at the first Downtown Art Walk in 2004 and continues to paint every month on the corner of 6th and Spring under his mural. Examples of his work include a portrait of a mariachi on Eastside Luv (2011), "Our Lady of DTLA" (2013) on the SB Spring building on the corner of 6th and Spring, and a Great Gatsby mural in the trendy South Park restaurant Faith and Flower. He has performed with Far East Movement and participated in the Star Wars Legion Art Show. [3]
