Early Life & Education
1988
He attended South Terrebonne High School in Louisiana where he was a star basketball player. He is a former member of the United States Marine Corps. Allen is from Houma, Louisiana but has spent time living in North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia.
Amateur Career
National Champ
Allen was a standout as an amateur boxer, becoming the 1992 United States Amateur Light Middleweight Champion. He had around 15 amateur matches before he enlisted in the military in 1988. Allen won the All-Marine Championship in 1989 and finished second at the US Armed Forces Championships in 1990 and 1991.

Allen lost his professional debut but rebounded to win his next eleven matches.
In 1994, he defeated Kesem Clayton at Wembley Arena in London. On March 30, 1995 he defeated Ricardo Raul Nunez at York Hall in London, England to capture the WBC International middleweightt title. He defended the title the following year against Teimuraz Kekelidze at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham. In 1997, he defeated Andrew Council, James Mason, and Jeff Johnson. He boxed in England six times during his professional career and his matches were televised by Sky Sports.
IBF World Champion
Allen won the International Boxing Federation interim middleweight world title by defeating Abdullah Ramadan at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia on September 18, 1998. He was a number one middleweight contender three different times in his career. Allen held several minor titles and fought for the world middleweight title three times against all time great middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins. The first fight ended in a no contest when Hopkins was pushed out of the ring by referee Mills Lane when he was breaking a clinch. In the second fight Hopkins knocked Allen out in the 7th round. After losing to Hopkins, Allen responded by winning thirteen consecutive matches. In their third fight Hopkins won a 12 round decision at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in 2004. He won the USBA middleweight title by beating Warren Williams in 1995. He defeated Tito Mendoza in 2002. In 2003 he defeated Jesse Aquino and Steve Walker. He retired in 2008 with a record of 39 wins, 5 losses with 27 knockouts. Allen's matches were televised on HBO, Showtime,and Fox Sports.
