Peter Mikael Carlsson (pɛtɛr; born October 19, 1970) is a Swedish business magnate, investor, and entrepreneur.

He was a former Chief Procurement Officer and head of Supply Chain at Tesla Motors. Peter is currently on the advisory board for Elementum, co-owner of Swedish company ModCam, on the board and investor for Orbital Systems, and part of other Swedish start-ups including Turn Pike and Clean Motion. Outside of Sweden he works with Silicon Valley start-up Iperal, and London-based Oden Technologies.

Carlsson was born on October 19, 1970 in Södertälje, Sweden, son of Rolf Carlsson and Kerstin Carlsson. He has a younger sister, Annika Carlsson (born 1974). Winter of 1980 he moved to Växjö, where he later attended Teknikum High School.

In 1989, he moved up to Luleå in Northern Sweden to attend Luleå University to receive his degree in Economics, Production and Quality Control ^[-1] where in 2015 he received "Alumni of the Year". However, in 1990 to 1991 he had to enlist in mandatory military training and relocated to Karlskrona. When done he returned to his studies in Luleå.

He started off working as a Quality Manager ^[2] at Kami in Kalix, Sweden.

He started working at Ericsson in the fall of 1995 as Sourcing Manager ^[2] and relocated to Malmö.

Peter was CPO at Sony Ericsson.

Peter had a total of 13 years experience from different roles within Ericsson in Sweden and the United States.

He led the team that built and implemented Ericsson's framework for Supplier Quality Assurance.

During his time at Ericsson, he lived briefly in North Carolina for six months.

Peter worked as Head of Sourcing ^[2] at Sony Ericsson from 2001-2007, in charge of Sony Ericsson's 8 billion euro per year purchasing department.

As SVP & CPO at NXP from 2008-2011 Peter built a world class strategic and global purchasing organization.

He was responsible for purchasing and outsourcing, he took the purchase organization from a tactical decentralized structure to a strategic global commodity organization.Peter

relocated to Singapore to join NXP.

Peter joined Tesla as the CPO in August 2011, relocating to Palo Alto, California from Singapore.

He was in charge of manufacturing both the Model S and the Model X. With the launch of the Model X in late 2015, Carlsson exited the company.

Peter joined the Advisory Board for Elementum ^[4] as of December 2015.

Peter created Amplify Operations in 2015 as a consulting firm for small startups.

Peter married Ingela Riihiaho on May 17, 1997, following the birth of their first child in 1996.

He has three children as of 2015 that all reside in California.
