Plot
The show is set in Delhi, and revolves around a business tycoon Devrath "Dev" Dixit, and Dr. Sonakshi Bose, a nutritionist hailing from a middle-class family.
Dev is a serious, reserved workaholic devoted to his family.
Sonakshi on the other hand is a bubbly, caring and bold doctor part of a Bengali family of five, and is appointed by Dev as Ishwari's permanent consulting nutritionist, to keep a check on her diet and health.
Initially, both Ishwari and Dev are indifferent to Sonakshi but gradually form a bond with her.
Things take a turn when Sona meets with a grave accident and is saved and cared for by Dev, as she inevitably falls in love with him.
Dev, on the other hand, being a very private person by nature, finds a great friend in Sonakshi and confides in her, gradually falling for her but not realizing it.
However, his alliance gets fixed with a rich businesswoman named Natasha, leaving Sonakshi heartbroken.
Finally, a day before their engagement, Dev realizes that he loves Sona and breaks the alliance, confessing his love for her.
After days of romance and hide-and-seek, Ishwari finds out about Dev and Sonakshi's relationship and reluctantly agrees to their alliance but soon succumbs to depression, finding it hard to make room for another woman in her son's life.
Sensing his mother's disapproval, Dev breaks up with Sonakshi.
Extremely hesitant to move on, Sonakshi soon decides to get engaged to another man.
This drives Dev to the edge and he begins stalking her, in denial regarding the news of her engagement.
He falls into depression and drinks to suppress his misery.
Dev creates a scene at her engagement and falls unconscious.
Seeing Dev's condition, Sona breaks apart, which ends her engagement as Ritwick willingly steps back, and takes him home.
Seeing this Ishawari realizes how selfish she had been and tells Dev to bring sonakshi home.
An ecstatic Dev proposes to his girlfriend but Sonakshi was even more hurt than Dev thought and tells him that they are over.
After a lot of apologies by Dev and Ishawari Bose family agreed and the marriage takes place with pomp and show.
However, although the marriage starts off happy and romantic, gradually, Ishwari's inner insecurities, other family members' manipulations, and misunderstandings lead to Dev and Sonakshi's separation, and a miserable Sona and her family leave Delhi and take off to Kolkata.
Seven years later
Sonakshi is now a businesswoman and mother to six-year old Suhana, her daughter from Dev.
The Bose family has to return to Delhi due to Sona's work, and she takes it as her responsibility to inform her daughter that Dev lives in Delhi.
Sonakshi inevitably meets her ex-husband at an award function as she returns, and realizes that he has transformed into a seemingly selfish, carefree and completely different man.
After more chance meetings, fights and arguments, Dev gradually realizes that Suhana is his daughter and reveals his identity to her.
With much hesitation, the child finally accepts him as her father, and tells her parents that they have to live together for her sake.
Dev and Sona are forced to agree to this, and they start taking turns living in each other's houses for a week each.
Gradually, they start growing closer and closer, and Ishwari soon realizes the blunder she had made as she starts adoring Sona.
Dev realizes his love for Sonakshi, and fixes his engagement with another girl so that Sona too realizes her feelings.
As the engagement breaks, she proposes to him in the rain and they express their love for each other with a hug.
The couple reunites, and after some time, Sona gives birth to Shubh, her and Dev's son.
Six months later
Dev and Sonakshi are finding it difficult to handle the kids and their work simultaneously.
Ishwari, being tensed about the upbringing of the children tells Sonakshi to quit her job and stay at home to look after Shubh and Suhana.
However, Dev is well aware of Sonakshi's love for her work, so he himself stops working and stays at home to manage the kids and the household.
Initially there is a lot of conflict seen among the members of the family but Dev and Sonakshi leave no stone unturned to justify their decision.
Finally, after a lot of struggle, their perspective and love for each other is understood by everyone and the show ends on a happy note.
