The Instituto Português do Mar e da Amosfera (Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere) or IPMA is the national meteorological, seismic, sea and atmospheric organization of Portugal. The IPMA was originally created in 1944 as the National Meteorological Service, assuming the present name in 2012, when it assumed also the responsibility for the fisheries and sea research that were formally under the responsibility of other agencies.
