History
Hyperwallet was founded by Lisa Shields in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2000.
Private equity firm Primus Capital acquired an undisclosed stake in Hyperwallet following a round of growth equity financing in 2014. [3] Later that year, Hyperwallet moved its corporate headquarters to San Francisco. [4] Brent Warrington, CEO of SecureNet Payment Systems prior to its acquisition by Worldpay, [5] became Hyperwallet’s CEO in 2015. [6]
Services
Hyperwallet provides domestic and cross-border outbound payment services in a range of payment methods, including wire transfers, bank deposits, and prepaid cards. [7] Hyperwallet operates in more than 170 countries [8] and 150 currencies. [9] The company reports that its platform serves over 8 million worldwide payees and processes $5 billion annually. [10] Hyperwallet’s payout technology can be integrated through its APIs, which debuted in 2015. [1]
Hyperwallet also offers payment services to traditional financial institutions. Western Union integrated Hyperwallet’s technology into the company’s payments system in 2015. [11] Hyperwallet briefly provided a consumer-oriented mobile remittance service through its subsidiary hyperREMIT, which launched in 2010. [12] The hyperREMIT service was discontinued in early 2016.
