History

GEP was established in 1999 by four co-founders - Subhash Makhija, Roopa Gandhi, Jagadish Turimella and Neha Desai Shah. The company initially focused on providing strategic and managed procurement services to clients in the Americas and Europe. It also developed the world's first cloud-native, unified source-to-pay platform – SMART by GEP – for both upstream and downstream procurement operations through the Software as a Service (SaaS) model.[4]

Since then, GEP has expanded its solutions portfolio to offer end-to-end, unified solutions for the entire supply chain management spectrum, focused digital transformation of procurement and supply chain.[5][6][7]

Locations

GEP has 18 offices and operations centers in major regional market centers across the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe, including London, Dublin, Frankfurt, Prague, Mumbai, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, São Paulo, San Jose, and Mexico City.[5][6][7]

Services and products

GEP offers end-to-end supply chain and procurement transformation solutions, both as an integrated, unified offering - i.e. a combination of strategy, software and managed services – and as discrete offerings. GEP's services and products are focused on digital transformation of the end-to-end supply chain, from demand and supply planning to procurement, manufacturing to logistics and distribution.

The company helps clients leverage new and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, internet of things, and blockchain to digitally transform their supply chain and procurement operations. SMART by GEP is an AI-driven supply chain and procurement software that helps enterprises get end-to-end visibility and control over their supply chain operations by connecting ERP, MRP, MES and PLM systems and on a single, unified platform.[8][9]

Strategy (Consulting services)

GEP's supply chain and procurement consulting services include supply chain and procurement transformation, opportunity assessment, strategic sourcing, low-cost country sourcing, M&A services, zero-based budgeting, supply chain diagnostics and design, capacity planning, risk management, network optimization and inventory optimization.[10][10]

Software

SMART by GEP is a cloud-native, unified platform for end-to-end procurement and supply chain management, developed by GEP on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and delivered through the “Platform as a Service” (PaaS) model.[11] SMART by GEP's core functionality includes spend analysis, master data management, sourcing, bill of materials management, contract management, savings tracking, supplier management, procure-to-pay, inventory management, and supply chain operations management for direct and indirect materials, as well as services.[12][13][14][4][15]

Managed services

GEP's supply chain and procurement outsourcing services comprise spend analysis, category management, supply market intelligence, transactions management, tail-spend management, procurement support services, inventory management, logistics management, planning & forecasting, and supply chain data management.[10][10]

Customers

GEP serves more than 350 Fortune 500 and Global 2000 enterprises across 30-plus industries and verticals, such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, Prudential, Macy's, Bristol Myers Squibb, Brooks Brothers, Brighthouse Financial, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts, in more than 110 countries.[10][5][14]

Acquisition

In 2012, GEP acquired Enporion, a supply chain management company based in Tampa, Florida.[16] Enporion provided strategic sourcing and e-procurement applications, and served customers in the electric and gas utilities, manufacturing and distribution industries.[17]

Partnerships

In 2016, GEP announced a strategic partnership with Global Risk Management Solutions (GRMS) to incorporate supplier risk profiling to the SMART by GEP procurement software platform.[18]

In 2016, GEP announced Knowledge Partnership with the Chartered Institute of Supply Management (CIPS), to share its thought leadership content on supply chain and procurement with CIPS members as part of its professional learning and development program.[19][20]
