Eve's Weekly Miss India

Eve's Weekly Miss India was a national pageant in India organised by a Bombay based magazine Eve's Weekly that sent its winner to compete in globally at Miss World and Miss International pageants from 1959 to 1988. The pageant sent its winner to Miss World from 1959 to 1966 and a runner up to Miss International from 1960 to 1962. After Reita Faria's historic win at Miss World,a separate pageant, Bharat Sundari was held to send the delegates to Miss World and Eve's Weekly started sending its winner to Miss International. The pageant sent its winner to Miss International from 1966 to 1988 after that Femina Miss India got the franchise to send India's representatives to Miss International. [1]

History and Pageant

The first edition of Eve's Weekly Miss India pageant was held in 1959.

Fleur Ezekiel of Mumbai was crowned the first ever Miss World India. She represented India at Miss World 1959.

In 1966, Reita Faria was crowned Eve's Weekly Miss India. She represented India at Miss World 1966 and became first Indian and Asian to win Miss World crown. This was the last edition of Eve's Weekly Miss India pageant where the winner was crowned as Miss India World after that Bharat Sundari held the franchise for Miss World in India from 1968 to 1975 and Eve's Weekly started sending its winner to Miss International pageant.

In 1968, *Bharat Sundari * got the franchise to send India's representative to Miss World. They sent the delegates from 1968 to 1970, 1972, 1975. Femina got the franchise in 1976 and has been sending India's representatives to Miss World after thean. Femina additionally sent delegates to Miss World in 1971 and 1974.
