Early life
Borchers lived in Bad Oeyhausen and Sydney, Australia until he completed high school, after which he attended design and fashion management school JAK in Hamburg and Parsons School of Design in New York City —graduating in 2010. [3] [1] [4] [5] While living in New York City, Borchers worked as an assistant stylist for Saks Fifth Avenue and New York Magazine. He first attended a fashion show at the age of 21, with friend Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, [6] as a guest of designer Richie Rich at his New York Fashion Week Heatherette runway show. [5] Giorgio Armani also invited him to his Milan fashion week runway shows, where he graced the front row alongside Megan Fox. [7] Upon graduation, Borchers was redesigning pieces he purchased from other designers in order to create his own fashion looks, and then started his own fashion line.
Fashion career
Borchers maintains residences in Hamburg, Paris, [8] and New York. In addition to his eponymous label, he is also the designer of the line of bags and accessories “Kin”. Each of the pieces in his Kin collection is named for an important friend or family member in his life, the prices of which range from a few hundred euros to 84,900 euros for the “Princess Nicky” featuring 620 diamonds—a piece that was debuted by model and actress Mischa Barton and Quincy Brown in 2012. Each bag is made of leather, many of which have comic book printing on the exterior. In addition Borchers has his own line for the catalogue company Otto to serve the commercial market. He is also a designer for the “Neon Coutur” collection by Hamburg fashion house Bethge. [9] [4] [10] [11]
In 2012 Borchers partnered with Blaken to produce a custom Rolex model labeled the "Deepsea". [12] In 2014 Borchers also collaborated with the Turkish fashion label Fancy Alman, [13] as a gesture and comment on the importance of integrating of Turkish immigrants into German society and overcoming ethnocentrism. [14] Borchers designs the “Love Collection” line, the proceeds of which go to charities benefiting impoverished children in Rwanda. [5] Borchers has been named one of the most 101 most influential people in Germany by Gala Magazine. [2]
Personal life
Borchers owns a doberman pitbull hybrid named Rafferty.
In October 2014, Rafferty survived an attempt by unknown assailants to poison the dog.
[15] In February of that year Borchers was also arrested by mistake while traveling to London when he used an ID he had reported stolen after finding it lost.
