Ady Suleiman
Ady Suleiman (born 1 July 1992) is a UK singer-songwriter from Nottingham who works in the R&B, hip-hop and reggae genres.
Life and career
Ady (of half English, half Tanzanian descent) started writing music at the age of 14.
He was first spotted by BBC Introducing’s Dean Jackson who played his track ‘Running Away’ on BBC Nottingham, before Huw Stephens debuted on Radio 1. Following the play, the track shot into the Top 20 on the Shazam chart, and attracted the attention of the music industry.
The then 22 year old went on to support the likes of Laura Mvula, Michael Kiwanuka, Professor Green and Lianne Le Havas, performed at Glastonbury and Bestival, before going to pick up a ‘Breakthrough Act of the Year’ award at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards.
Ady signed to Sony Music, via his own label imprint, Pemba Records, named after his father’s birth place, in 2014.
2015
Ady released his debut EP, ‘This is My EP’, in May 2015, featuring singles, ‘So Lost’ and ‘State Of Mind’.
The E.P. saw him earmarked as an artist to watch by the likes of Beat, Hunger TV and Line of Best Fit among others.
May 2015 also saw the release of Donnie Trumpet & the Social Experiment’s album, ‘Surf’.
Ady featured on and co-wrote two tracks on the album, namely ‘Slip Slide’ (also featuring Busta Rhymes) and ‘Rememory’ (also featuring Erkyah Badu). The album was critically acclaimed receiving an aggregate score of 86 on review site Metacritic, which indicates "universal acclaim".
In September 2015, Ady released his second E.P. ‘What’s The Score E.P’.
The lead track on the E.P. ‘What’s The Score’ was produced by Jonny Coffer (Beyonce, Sam Smith), and features American rapper Joey Bada$$.
Throughout the year, Ady supported the likes of Leon Bridges, Shakka and Chance the Rapper, and performed at clubnights such as Communion ‘New Faces’, as well as festivals throughout the summer, including Wireless and Secret Garden Party.
In November 2015 he completed his first headline tour with sold out dates in London, Bristol and Nottingham.
2016
Ady started 2016 with another nationwide headline UK tour with sold out dates including London’s XOYO. He is currently in the studio finishing his debut album.
Ady is taking time out of the studio to perform on the Main stage at the Splendour Festival in Wollaton Park Nottingham July 23rd.
